Buguma is one the large towns officially designated by government as a city in Rivers State.
Founded in 1884, modern Buguma is the headquarters of the Asari-Toru Local Government Area as well as the traditional capital of the Kalabari Kingdom presided over by the Amayanabo of Kalabari.
Buguma city is accessible by road and river transportation. Fishing and petty trading are basic means of livelihood among ordinary people. The city is rich and beautiful in history, culture and geography.
The Owu-aru-sun festival is a great cultural activity of the people. Historic buildings and monuments such as the King Amachree Square, the First Baptist Church, the African Church and the Anglican Church are all located along the King Amachree road.
